California Cannabis Hemp Act of 2014 – October 1, 2013 The Signature Drive Begins | Marijuana.com

For California’s medical marijuana community and those seeking the legalization of recreational pot consumption…It’s been a long hard road. But with the fast approaching midterm elections, hope springs eternal. As many believe that may well be the year that California passes “The California Cannabis Hemp Act of 2014.”

Under the California Cannabis Hemp Act of 2014 – commonly referred to as the Jack Herer initiative – marijuana prohibition in the state would effectively be terminated. Opening the doors for legal marijuana cultivation on a personal level, in addition to permitting the cultivation of industrial hemp for commercial uses.

As the initiative is currently written, California residents over the age of 21 may cultivate up to 99 plants, possess up to 12 pounds, and be able to purchase recreational marijuana from state sanctioned pot shops.

Mendocino’s 99 Program: Feds Back Off Demand To Know Medical Marijuana Growers Identities | Marijuana.com

Mendocino County officials and the medical marijuana patients once participating in the 99 program, can breathe a deep sigh of relief this morning. Apparently Melinda Hagg, the Northern California’s US Atty. Gen., or one of her superiors had an epiphany. And it was during this moment of utter clarity, that it was decided chasing after County compliant patients, in a state that voted for medical marijuana, was less than a good idea.

As Marijuana Acceptance Grows – The DEA Reports Busted Grow Ops Drop By 60% | Marijuana.com

As marijuana revenues are projected to cultivate strong gains over the coming years, a new report shows marijuana cultivation busts have nosedived by nearly 60%.

Back in the heady days of 2009 2010, when busting marijuana growers was still considered a great federal jobs program, the DEA was responsible for harvesting over 10 million plants [albeit prematurely]. Now, fast-forward to 2012, after Colorado and Washington’s voters fired up their recreational marijuana laws. We see those pesky pot eradication numbers drop to well below 4 million plants pulled by the Drug Enforcement Administration, or their local counterparts.

From that peak of over 10 million, the Drug Enforcement Administration said the number of marijuana plants eradicated dropped to 6,735,511 in 2011 and 3,933,950 in 2012, just a fraction of the 9 million marijuana plants the DEA had hoped to destroy.

DEA officials attribute the decline in part to the state of California, declaring in the agency’s 2014 budget proposal that California’s financial constraints resulted in “the decreased availability of local law enforcement personnel to assist in eradication efforts.” [Ha!]
